Dear Subscribers,
If you’ve wondered where I’ve been and why I haven’t posted in so long, here’s the answer:
I’m excited, proud, and a little terrified to announce the publication of my first book! You can preorder it now. The book will show up on your doorstep on June 4.
The Truth About Immigration: Why Successful Societies Welcome Newcomers is the result of nearly 20 years of researching and speaking about one of the most important but misunderstood issues of our time (and all time). Most of us have been been exposed to two dominant narratives about immigrants. The villain narrative tells you that newcomers are a threat to our economic prosperity and our social stability. The victim narrative tells you that newcomers are the poor, huddled masses who need our compassion—even if it costs us dearly. You’ll hear these two supposedly competing stories during election season this year in the United States, and in every other country where debates about immigration are raging.
But the truth is that both both narratives are wrong. If you follow the data, it’s clear that immigrants are net positive contributors to everything that makes for a successful society. New people who bring different ideas, networks, skills, and capital are the essential ingredients of an economically prosperous and socially vibrant society.
The book is firmly rooted in the most rigorous research available. But it’s not just a boring aggregation of facts and figures. The evidence comes to life through deeply personal stories from my own immigration experience and from the experiences of natives and foreigners from all walks of life. I’m confident that you’ll walk away with a profound understanding of how newcomers are inseparable from most of the good things you take for granted.
Every author gets a bit annoying in the weeks leading up to the launch of their book. They ask you to buy their book and tell all your friends. I won’t lie: I’m gonna do the same. So please click the button below! And tell everyone you know!
Instead of annoying you, I hope to provide content and insights through this newsletter that you’ll find useful as you sift through the confusing headlines and angry debates on immigration that you’ll be exposed to in the coming months and years.
***********************
To coincide with the book launch and to speak to the broader audience it will bring to this site, I’m going to start using this newsletter differently:
I’ll be posting much more material on immigration-related topics for several months before and after the book launch. This doesn’t mean that I’ll only post about that topic, but that will be the dominant topic for a while. It’ll be really interesting and fun material.
I’ll be posting much more frequently—about twice a month.
Yes, there will still be life-related Zekrets! Just not in every single post.
For those who’ve been with me so far, I’ll hope you’ll stay along for the ride. For those who are new subscribers, welcome and thank you!
I’m so excited to engage with you,
Zeke
